Weslaco ISD Releases Forensic Audit Findings

The Weslaco ISD Board of Trustees received the final forensic audit report from
Weaver &Tidwell LLP on Monday, September 20, 2021, recapping a months-long
investigation.

While many specifics were discussed in executive session, investigators provided a
general overview of findings during the workshop.

The Board reviewed the final report to ensure that all key questions were answered
and to evaluate sharing with outside agencies, including the Texas Education
Agency. The final forensic audit report is now available for the public.

“Weslaco ISD pledges to move forward,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Cris Valdez said.
“We face forward and as Team WISD. We collectively commit to working with
transparency and honesty. Our hope is that the publication of the report findings is a
step in refining our district systems by enhancing processes and procedures and that
work has already begun. We will also institute and enforce proper internal controls to
prevent any future issues as noted in the findings. We’re focused on building a brighter
future for Weslaco ISD in reestablishing trust and confidence within the specific district
departments referenced in the report.”
