Public Notice of Intent to Apply
In accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines, Weslaco Independent School District is required to inform our community and our stakeholders regarding our intent to apply for the 2023-2024 Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC), Cycle 12, Year 1 grant application on behalf of 10 of our schools. The following schools are participating in the program: Ybarra Elementary, Cleckler-Heald Elementary, Rico Elementary, North Bridge Elementary, Memorial Elementary, Airport Elementary, Margo Elementary, Gonzalez Elementary, Silva Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary. Weslaco ISD will also hold a shared service agreement with San Isidro ISD to provide one center for kinder – 8th grade students.
The purpose of the 21st CCLC grant program, also known as Texas Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE), is to support the creation of community learning centers that provide academic and enrichment opportunities, during non-school hours for students, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.
The grant application will be submitted to TEA by January 23, 2023. Please provide any feedback or suggestions you may have.
The grant application will be available for public review after submission of the application.
