Program Information

Elementary Early Exit Bilingual Program

Weslaco ISD offers an early-exit transitional bilingual program. The goal of the program is for emergent bilingual students to utilize their primary language as a resource while acquiring full proficiency in English to participate equitably in school.

El distrito escolar de Weslaco ofrece un programa bilingüe de transiciónal de salida temprana. La meta del programa es que los estudiantes bilingües emergentes utilizan su lengua materna como recurso mientras adquieren plena competencia en inglés para participar equitativamente en la escuela.

Secondary English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs

Weslaco ISD offers Content-Based ESL and Pull-Out ESL. The goal of ESL programs is for emergent bilingual students to attain full proficiency in English in order to participate equitably in school.

Weslaco ISD is committed to ensuring 100% of teachers of emergent bilinguals are Bilingual Certified at the elementary level and ESL certified at the secondary level. Annually, professional learning is afforded for teachers who are in need of certification through the following:

In addition, each year of professional learning is launched with the Differentiated Instruction Fiesta Conference. Supports including instructional coaching and specific professional learning are offered throughout the school year.
