Gifted and Talented Screening and Nomination Instruments (IOWA Math & Reading Assessment)
Testing provides an objective and systematic way to identify gifted children. Ability and Achievement tests provides scores to describe a students performance in relation to others, this is called a norm-referenced exam. The tests Weslaco ISD uses are the IOWA Reading and Mathematics tests, these exams are used to find students who show potential for above grade level advanced level learning. These tests are frequently used in most districts as there is a Spanish version of the exam called the Logramos. The national standard for identifying gifted students using the Iowa is 98th percentile. Weslaco ISD uses a variety of tests and local norms in identifying gifted students.
