The mission of the parent and family engagement program is to synergize with parents, school personnel and community members to engage in school planning activities and to foster exceptional community service, open-communication, and positive collaboration for student success.
The vision of the parent and family engagement program is to ensure that all students have equal
access to quality education in a safe environment that enables them to strive to their fullest potential. In addition, Weslaco Independent School District is committed to collaborating with the
community to meet the needs of students and families. We seek quality services that impact and
inspire all parents to become better supporters, decision-makers, and advocates for their children.
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law designed to ensure educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness. The McKinney-Vento Act guarantees the right to a free and appropriate public education for students experiencing homelessness. Under this law, students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence are entitled to specific educational services and supports to help them succeed in school. The law recognizes that homelessness can present significant barriers to students' education, and it aims to remove these barriers.
Our District has developed a Wellness Policy that is focused on improving the health of students. The policy, required by USDA, is currently reviewed, assessed, and modified for district approval by SHAC, which is made up of parents, teachers, administrators, students, health professionals, and interested community members who review the district-wide nutrition and physical activity policies. The SHAC meets, at a minimum, four per times per year. If you are interested in participating, you may contact Erica Garcia at the Parent & Family Engagement department 969-6600 or Becky Gracia at Food & Nutrition Services 969- 6593.
