Dr. Ruben Alejandro
Dr. Ruben Alejandro, native of Weslaco, was born, raised and is a product of Weslaco’s fine community. He is a 1972 graduate of Weslaco High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Biological Sciences. He returned to Weslaco in 1977 and began his educational career at Weslaco High School teaching Chemistry and Biology.
While teaching at Weslaco High School, Dr. Alejandro pursued and earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Supervision from the University of Texas Pan American. In the year 2000, he completed all requirements necessary to earn the most prestigious degree of Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph. D.) in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
After 12 years of teaching, Dr. Alejandro held various Educational Administration positions in the District affording him opportunities to contribute significantly. The positions he held, diverse in nature, ranged from the District Technology Curriculum Coordinator to Federal Programs Director, Assistant Superintendent and finally Deputy Superintendent. As Deputy Superintendent, he had the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with all aspects of operating a successful school district.
After 35 years of service to the Weslaco Independent School District, Dr. Ruben Alejandro was officially named Superintendent of Schools on May 4, 2012 by the Weslaco Board of Trustees.
It is through his combined experiences of teaching and serving in various District Administrative roles over the past 35 years that have led Dr. Ruben Alejandro to become a visionary and progressive leader. As Superintendent, it is his vision to empower our 21st century learners with effective communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Dr. Alejandro will implement Pre-Kinder thru 16 programs that will provide all Weslaco ISD students the skills they need to thrive and succeed in our global society. He carries with him high expectations of the faculty and staff so that all students graduate from Weslaco ISD prepared to embrace post secondary education successfully. His vision is to ensure that all students are well prepared to competitively challenge others at a state, national, and international level in all areas of academics and UIL.
Dr. Alejandro firmly believes that today’s students are digital age learners who will be tomorrow’s digital age workers, scientists, researchers and developers. He believes that as educators, the dignity and privilege we bear is that of the responsibility towards our students. It is a responsibility of the highest regard.
Dr. Alejandro practices an open-door policy and welcomes sincere and productive contributions/suggestions from all employees and citizens and is honored to serve the Weslaco Independent School District students, staff and community as Superintendent of Schools
